This is a really substantial sandstone trough.  English sandstone.  A mighty beast.  There are big chunky iron bars sunk into the fabric of this trough.  Two at the back.  These I am sure were added a very long time ago  Maybe when it was originally made to support the fissures in the stone.  They are part and parcel of the character of this really mighty trough.  Lovely depth for planting.
